The system aims to identify, record and manage each single product and/or lot number during the whole production and packaging process on production and packaging lines both automated and not.

This system securely stores the collected data and it displays, records and manages the supervised data.

The structure of the traceability system assures system’s flexibility and the possibility of expanding
it in the course of time, without affecting negatively the processes.

The possibility of tracking products and/or lot numbers is only one of the many functions Spy Code Recorder has, since the system has been created to optimise the performances of production and packaging lines too.

According to the regulation of the European Community n. 178 (28th January 2002), it is compulsory for food farming companies to have a traceability system since the 1st of January 2005. The aim of a traceability system is to avoid food crisis or, at least, to manage food emergencies in the best way. In fact a traceability system allows to promptly withdraw not conforming or bad products from the market in order to avoid scandals and a hard decrease in selling.
Traceability is not only an obligation but companies can profit from it because it assures transparency into the production process and this allows to strengthen the guarantee of product’s quality, both from a safety and hygiene point of view and from a products typicity point of view. Moreover a traceability system allows to improve the information flow about a product and to increase the consumer’s confidence in that product and in the company too. Traceability is a proper instrument to control and manage all the processes from the origin of the raw materials to the logistics and distribution. The tracking system can be totally automated, if the production process is automated too, or it can be totally manual. If the tracking system is totally automated, each operation, normally carried out in an automated manner, can be also carried out manually in order to remedy each problem that may happen during the production or packaging process.
Spy Code Recorder can be developed by using both barcode technology and the more modern radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.
